The Family of William Bruce Dick and
Annie Oliver Bennett
William (Bill) Bruce Dick, b. 16 March 1908. He married:
Annie (Nancy) Oliver Bennett (b. 18 February 1908; d. 29 May 1997). They married on 26 December 1936 at St Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Wandsworth in South London. They had 3 children:
a. Heather Margaret Dick, b. 27 April 1938 in Clapham, South London; m. Robert Francis Osborne Stockwell on 8 October 1960 at Cheam Baptist Church, Cheam, Surrey.
b. James Bruce Dick, b. 7 July 1939 in Aberdeen; m. Eleanor Mary Rice on 26 October 1979 in Sutton, Surrey.
c. Lawrence Richard Dick, b. 1 February 1944 in Glasgow; m. Gay Prescott on 2 August 1969 at Cheam Baptist Church, Cheam, Surrey.
William Dick was the son of Isabella Scorgie (1881 – 1961). He was fostered by Mr & Mrs Dick from an early age and has always used their surname, although he was never formally adopted by them. He died on 15 August 1996 at 26 Rosebank, Epsom, Surrey.
Annie Bennett was the daughter of David Frederick Bennett (1856 – 1933) and Annie Lucy Oliver (1868 – 1960). She was born at 40 Walton Street, Eastwood, Glasgow. David and Annie had 11 children. She died on 29 May 1997 in a Nursing Home in Sutton, Surrey.
William trained as a Bank Clerk and worked for most of his working life for Midland Bank Ltd. He served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War, being seconded to the Royal Canadian Navy for much of that time.
